Fraud and Scam Alerts

Consumer scams, frauds and unethical practices are on the rise. The Clerk’s Office is often alerted to these suspicious practices from the public by telephone, email or in person. It is impossible to catalog all scams but many scams are the same old song with a new twist.

It is important to remember that Clerk & Comptroller employees will never contact you by phone or email and ask that you send money or give your personal information. If you receive one of these calls, make sure to write down as much information as you can about the call, and contact the Clerk’s office at 239-533-2766, or contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Fraud line at 239-258-3292. You can also contact the Clerk’s office by email info_scam@leeclerk.org.

It is important to remember – Do not open an e-mail attachment from any unfamiliar source, and never provide personal information to an unfamiliar source, either by phone or e-mail.

Below are some of the more frequent scams as reported on the Lee County Sheriff's Office; FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center; Florida Division of Consumer Services; Federal Trade Commission Scam Alerts; and the Lee County Clerk of Courts.
